statewide. 33,926 (32%) of
those were confirmed cases,
which is a decrease of 8%
from 1998.

Illinois during 1999, 6% of
the total number of children
reported for abuse were
taken into protective
custody.

10.5% Sexual abuse

In 1999 there were 2,057
children reported for child
abuse or neglect, which is a
rate of 44.7 per 1,000
children. The state rate is
28.1 per 1,000 children.
Of the FY 99 reports,
38% (782) were indicated
reports.
During 1999 in Rock
Island County, there were
11 confirmed reports of
substance exposed infants
compared to 15 in 1998.
120 children were placed
in protective custody
during 1999 compared to
139 in 1998.
